Local Food Prices

Lets start posting prices of our local food, this should help others for comparison shopping.

Today I picked up 50 1lb packages of rotini for 59 cents a pound at my local Caputo's in the Chicago area.

Just got back from regular grocery shopping @ an Albertsons in W WA - milk - eggs - chesse and that kinda thing is crazy prices - but I don't buy it anyway - well except cheese I bought a small loaf - 2lb $10. Everything else had the regular prices. While I typically only buy the name brand stuff - I only buy the stuff on sale.

The interesting thing to me was ...the shelves were not as full on the basics as they usually are. Still, plenty of selection and plenty of food though. the meat dept was loaded with seafood and the regular meats...since I'm watching the dough tightly these days I didn't bother to price any of that stuff out.

I got some sweet deals on packaged veal - about 1.50 lb after a store reduction coupon - and same for some ground turkey.

Overall - via sale prices - food was cheap..spent about $125 and got a cart full...should last about a month of regular dinner/weekend eating and got a buncha extra pasta, sauce, bottled water and some canned goods for the stockpile.

Which Caputos or all of them? Nevermind... Found the ad. Good find. I see they have pasta sauce for 99 cents a jar and Pinto beans for 59 cents a lb, too. Its been a long time since I went to Caputos. They were real overpriced for a while there.

I think it makes a lot of difference how well you shop, and if you take advantages to stock up when things go on sale, if you happen to live in an area with many competing stores like I do.

Got 13 pounds of fancy pasta at Costco for $15.00. Two large bags with 6 smaller bags inside, 3 different types. Rotini, bowtie, penne, twisty, corkscrew, string bean shaped. One bag was all organic. The small bags ar 17.6 ounce, look perfect size for quart mason jars. #25lb bag white rice $10.79.

Evidently there are 2 different Caputos chains, each owned by one of the Caputo brothers. The ones near me are all the wrong ones.

I went to the one in Naperville, if you are familiar with the area.

Can of our preferred chili just went from $.88 to $.99.
Jumped on 2lb pasta for $1.69.
Got my own chickens.
Make my own soy milk.
Mill my own flour.
Roll my own smokes.
Pour my own boolits.
Can still find 2lb cheese for $5-$6 on sale. Freezes well. Sour cream does not.
Not too far from Rebel Yarr, only less wet.
